Vibrant. Transitional. Inviting.

Shoppable Bold Transitional Living Room

This bold transitional living room is filled with warm and inviting blue and orange hues. I mixed modern elements and more traditional elements to create this transitional design concept.

Sofa & Accent Chair

When I begin designing a room I always like to start with the sofa and accent chair. The sofa creates a solid foundation for the design style I’m creating and an accent chair creates the fun and excitement I like to add to my designs. Check out the clickable images below for the sofa and accent chair I used in this Transitional design plan.

Tables

The next item I like to select for my designs is the side and coffee tables. My goal is have them coordinate with each together, but not be the same finish and color. This helps create the visual excitement that comes into a room by mixing materials. Check out the clickable images below for the tables I used in this Transitional design plan.

Pillows & Rugs

Once I’ve selected the case goods its time to move on to pillows and area rugs, my favorite part!! When I select pillows I love mixing patterns, colors, and textures. It would be boring if everything was the same color and texture! I also try to work in odd numbers when placing my pillows. I should also mention that it is wise to select various sizes of pillows to add to that visual excitement that I mentioned earlier. When my pillows are selected I then find an area rug that has similar color tones to my pillows. By coordinating the pillows and rug it helps solidify and unify the colors into the space. Lighting

So lighting is so much fun!! It is really the last piece of the room design that can really “bring the style home!” It’s also one of the first pieces someone will notice as they walk into the room. Think about the last time you went into a beautifully designed room, I bet you noticed the lighting and silently said “wow, that is amazing!” Each design style has lighting that is more simple or over the top, it just depends on how far you want to go with it. So when matching ceiling light with table lamps or other accent lighting I try to find some unifying factor that is found in all the pieces, but I don’t want to match them exactly to each other, because I do want each piece to be unique. Check out the clickable images below for the lighting I used in this Transitional design plan.

Artwork & Accent Pieces

Now that the room is pretty much put together it’s time to add pieces to the walls, tables, and shelves. When selecting items for the wall I like to use a mix of mirrors, art, and photos that all go along with the design style I’m trying to create. I like to mix bigger statement pieces like wall mirrors, with smaller grouping of framed art and photos. For tables a few accent vases, tray, or bowl is perfect, just remember to work in thirds and have various heights. When styling shelves I like to mix materials by using items that are wood, glass, metal, books, and greenery. Once again working in thirds and having items be various heights is key for creating a well designed space. Check out the clickable images below for the artwork and accessories I used in the Transitional design plan.

Flooring & Wallpaper

For this Coastal design I chose a warm dark wood that goes well with the design but doesn’t take away from the color scheme of the room.

One of the final things I love to add to a room if I can is wallpaper! Most wallpaper these days is removable and doesn’t damage your walls, so its easy to install and easy to remove when you want to change it up. Wallpaper is a fun way to add that extra punch of pattern and color onto an accent wall and really tie it into your design concept. Check out the clickable images below for the flooring & wallpaper I used in the Transitional design plan.
